ALBANY, N.Y.(AP) – A former state lawmaker jailed on accusations of using the Internet to set up a meeting for sex with young girls has resigned from his post on the state parole board.

Chris Ortloff resigned Wednesday. He was arrested Monday by state police at a suburban Albany motel. Authorities say since June he repeatedly sent e-mails to investigators posing as two preteen sisters and arranged a meeting for sex.

The 61-year-old Republican from Plattsburgh faces a federal charge of using the Internet to solicit sex with a minor. A bail hearing was postponed Wednesday afternoon at his lawyer’s request.

Parole Chairman George Alexander says he accepted Ortloff’s resignation Wednesday. In the $101,600-a-year job since 2006, Ortloff helped decide whether state inmates should be freed on parole.
